Under Mark Ormond's direction, the Ringling Museum coordinated an international symposium and book on Joseph Beuys that was published by D.A.P. in late 2001. The exhibition included educational programs, community-based interactive projects, lectures and artist talks, a film series, and concert in the galleries.

As a component of Sarasota's On the Edge Festival, this daylong presentation and series of panel discussions introduced issues of contemporary art, including how technology has changed the art world. Panel members included artists, writers and faculty from Ringling School of Art & Design and USF Tampa: Jaia Chen, Bob Hanning, Robyn Voshardt, Sven Humphrey, Mark Anderson, Richard Beckman, Doug Loewen, and Jeff Whipple.
